The England Cricket Board announced a solid 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia in October.
Jos Buttler will lead the 15-member Squad, which is missing opener Jason Roy due to a string of bad performances. After Eoin Morgan’s retirement from international cricket earlier this year, Jos Buttler is leading the team in its first big competition.
Jason Roy was dropped from the T20 World Cup team
After a disappointing run for both his country’s side and in The Hundred, Jason Roy was unable to make it to England’s 15-man Squad. Instead, England opted to go with Phil Salt, who made his Twenty20 International debut earlier this year. Since the end of the T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2021, Jason Roy has played in 11 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring 206 runs at an average of 18.72 runs per game. After a poor run of form, Jason Roy was dropped from the T20 World Cup team.
Tymal Mills, the top wicket-taker in the last tournament before his injury ended the season, has been left out of the starting eleven but has been named as a traveling reserve with Liam Dawson and Richard Gleeson.
The Squad will begin the 2022 season on October 22 against Afghanistan in Perth, looking to improve their semi-final finish at the T20 World Cup last year.
Jonny Bairstow ruled out of 2022 T20 World Cup
On Friday, while playing golf, Bairstow was injured in a freak accident that caused him to sustain an injury to his lower limb. As a result, he will not be able to participate in the T20 World Cup 2022. Bairstow was initially included in England’s 15-man Squad for the tournament, which was announced earlier on Friday. But now Jonny Bairstow is ruled out of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
