New Zealand Named Their Squad For The T20 World Cup 2022

New Zealand has named their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next month. Finn Allen and Michael Bracewell have been named to New Zealand’s 15-person T20 World Cup team for 2022.

The duo of Wellington Firebirds is the only two new players to be added to the Black Caps squad that made it all the way to the 2021 Twenty20 World Cup final.

Devon Conway will be the team’s primary wicketkeeper, and Adam Milne, who had replaced the injured Lockie Ferguson in the previous tournament, will also find a spot in the squad.

While all-rounder Kyle Jamieson failed to make the team owing to his ongoing recovery from a back ailment, Todd Astle and Tim Seifert also missed selection.

“It’s always a fantastic moment when a World Cup team is announced, and I’d want to congratulate the 15 players selected today.” Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, said following the announcement.

“It is particularly thrilling for Finn and Michael, who will be participating in their maiden ICC tournaments, while Martin Guptill is preparing for his seventh T20 World Cup, which is an incredible feat in and of itself.

“It’s great to have this tournament so soon after last year’s tournament, in which we played excellent cricket but ultimately fell short. With the core of that team intact and the intriguing additions of Finn and Michael, we should enter the competition with great hope.”

Before the World Cup, the team will play a tri-series against Pakistan and Bangladesh beginning on October 7.

Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, believes that the tri-series will give crucial preparation for the World Cup. “In addition to the all-important game time, these matches will provide an excellent opportunity to fine-tune our combinations and game-plans before departing for Australia,” he stated.
